Like every year, May 4th is the perfect time to celebrate all things Star Wars and capture our dearest memories from the sci-fi series, many of That comes from the games we’ve played based on the space epic. Marcus Stewart – Hold your KOTOR, Battlefronts and Orders. Before all of that, my brother and I had Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles on the PlayStation 1. If you’re not familiar, the game is essentially a beat of Star Wars 3D set in the movies. events of The Phantom Menace. As Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi, my brother and I frantically tossed our spotlights to knock out waves of droids until we faced Darth Maul on our own. It’s the first game that really makes me feel like a mean Jedi, and visiting movie locations like Naboo is an added perk. Jedi Power Battles is one of my favorite co-op games on PS1 and rivals the pod racing game the best thing that came out in Episode I.
Matt Miller – I have fond memories of the early days of the Star Wars Galaxies back in 2003, which gave me the opportunity to share my love of that most famous fictional universe with other fans. in a way that seemed impossible just a few years ago. I explored planets, visited cantinas, and fired explosive shots at rats for several months before abandoning other gaming objectives. Meanwhile, the most dedicated fans remained in the game in later years, creating entire communities and lasting friendships in the MMO.
I returned to the game in 2011, in the last week of the game’s official existence, to record its closing events. I was an outsider at the time, watching longtime players say goodbye even as the final fate of the Galactic Civil War played out differently on each server. I remember feeling palpable sadness felt by many players in the final minutes before the game world ended. Players are saying goodbye to an experience they’ve cherished for years as a point of connection with each other and a fictional story they love. It’s a powerful reminder to me of how storytelling can bring us together and how some games can transcend the sum of their parts to become something quite special to me. participants play them.
Andrew Reiner – I didn’t know Super Star Wars was in development until I went to nearby EB Games and heard the store employee talking about it with a customer. When their conversation ended, I asked the staff member they were talking about the Star Wars game. He said it’s an upcoming Super Nintendo game and it will be exactly like “playing through the movies”. My excitement is growing, and I have to know when it will release. He said, “Tomorrow!” I ran out of the store, followed my parents at Sears, and begged them to take me back to the mall tomorrow (and give me 70 bucks) to get the game. They did! I played that game for weeks on end and loved every second of it.
Wesley LeBlanc – I have many memories associated with the Star Wars video game, but none currently surpass the alternate ending of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (game). play). Back then – 2005 – I didn’t even know an alternate ending was a thing in a video game, let alone an ending based on a movie with a definitive ending. But alas, Revenge of the Sith has one, and it’s for all the Anakin fans out there. Revenge of the Sith ends with Obi-Wan Kenobi defeating Anakin on Mustafar (best believe this battle made me cry in theaters). He was basically burned alive, only to survive almost nothing, at which point Emperor Palpatine turned him into Darth Vader. However, in the alternate ending, Anakin defeats Obi-Wan, and while Palpatine congratulates him on his victory, Anakin betrays him, stabbing his sword right through his torso. Watching this unfold on screen got me thinking, and to this day it stands out as the kind of big move I wish more Star Wars games would make. .
John Carson – The Star Wars game rarely stuck with me as a kid. I’ve played each entry of the Star Wars trilogy many times with my friends and had a great time with them, but they’re not my favorite games to rent and come back to time and time again. other. What remains in my memory is the first time I got my hands on a Gamecube controller at EB Games and started the demo for Star Wars: Rogue Squadron. I had never seen anything so real from a game at the time; it looks like a spot re-enactment of the trench running from A New Hope. You couldn’t tear that remote from me until the Death Star was destroyed, and even then, I begged to stay and run one more time. That little piece of Rogue Squadron not only sold me tactical space battles and Nintendo action boxes, but also rekindled my excitement for the original trilogy, prompting me to go back and how did the comparison of both versions go and if the picture is almost the same I convince myself it is.
