Prograis (27-1, 23 KOs) and Zepeda (35-2, 27 KOs) will compete for the vacant WBC lightweight title in an event starting at 9:00 p.m. ET at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.
As for Prograis, he’s a better all-around boxer than 33-year-old Zepeda, and he’ll make him a third defeat.
As good as Prograis and Zepeda are, it sucks that they have to fight each other as they both have the potential to take precedence over WBO champion Josh Taylor, who has gone downhill after coming under artillery fire from Regis. in 2019.
That bout took away a lot of Scottish boxer Taylor’s strength, leaving behind the shell that Jack Catterall defeated.
Regis Prograis said: “He was up there smiling because of all this, all the dramatic things that happened. fight TV center about Jose Zepeda.
“I just feel like I’m on another level. In terms of skills, I just feel better. I definitely feel like I have more experience. I’ve reached the top. That’s the difference between me and him,” Prograis said.
Zepeda is a great boxer and he could have won this fight if he landed on Prograis like Taylor did in 2019. What Taylor revealed in that fight was that Prograis is not a great domestic fighter and His defense at close range is very poor.
“Most importantly, I just feel like he’s not on the same level as me. If you compare us in terms of skill, strength, chin, fitness, speed, defense, I feel like I win every time. Every item is mine,” said Prograis.
“I have never been hurt. He was dropped many times. I have never been hurt in my life, and I destroy people. That’s it. I feel like I’m the better fighter.
“You can look into a person’s eyes, but you can’t feel a person from their eyes. When I stare at [Roberto] Duran’s eyes, it was something else.
“The eyes cannot tell a story. I’m not worried about that. We had a fight, and that’s what we had to do. You can fool some with your eyes, I guess, but to him he will come and fight, and I will come and fight. That’s what it will happen.
“When they told me he was in a car accident. The main thing is, they say him 100%. I will put on an outstanding performance in 12 rounds. I know that.
“I don’t want to hear excuses about a car crash or anything. He’s just there and says he’s 100%. There’s nothing wrong. Of course, that’s what everyone will say on Sunday. ‘Ah, he is this. That’s what he is.’
“I’m going to go out there and dominate and do what I have to do. I’m not worried about anything else. He said he was 100%, that’s it. The war is going on. I don’t care about him. My job is to go and dominate. That’s what I would be out there to do.
“No matter what happens, I will go out and dominate. It was yesterday,” Prograis said of the time he learned about Zepedas’ car crash. “They told me at the media event. They said he was in a car accident, and that’s why he didn’t go there.
“A little [worried the fight would be canceled]. I was like, ‘Oh my gosh.’ I was definitely a little scared, but they told me he was nice. So I’m glad it’s good,” Prograis said.
