The stories of Tokyo Pixel Art Adventure Japan look very interesting
BitSummit, Japan’s premier indie gaming event, was held over the weekend in Kyoto, and among the games featured was one called Stories of Tokyo that has really attracted my attention.
Developed by Drecom, who is usually in the phone game business, this is a moody adventure game set in Tokyo, where confusingly, “The city continues to tell her story, even after she went missing.“
The game’s trailer looks greatwith its world-building art style in 3D, then give everything a sharp pixel art effect, before dissolving it all in some incredibly sad light:
Looks great, doesn’t it? Now though, you might also wonder how the game actually plays, as that trailer is almost entirely made up of cinematic sequences. IGN Japan was at BitSummit and after a hands-on demo with Stories of Tokyo says it’s built a lot like a traditional PS1 game, with a fixed camera view for your 3D character to walk around, with most of your time simply wandering the streets of the city. (you are locked to walking speed), Explore and learn about the world around you.
This might be a big step for the older heads here, but if Does anyone remember the 2013 PS3 exclusive Rain, you can see some similarities here, and with good reason. Top development on Stories of Tokyo is Yuki Ikeda, who is also the director of Rainand worked on various projects at Drecom, This is his first brand new game in a decade.
Tokyo Stories is currently slated for PC and “game consoles,“ with an expected release date around 2023. If you want to see more about the game, Its official Instagram account has some smaller clipsincludes one thing that shows the uniqueness of the game look is achieved:
